We are still on track to close this Thursday...if all goes well.
There have been some hitches- the inspector said the house should be treated for termites, even though there was no evidence. He won't take back what he wrote, even though he agrees that the house doesn't need to be tested. Reasoning- What if they sue me???? Sounds a bit whiny to me, but is a sign of how sue-happy our society has become. As a housewarming gift, our realtor had a termite inspector come out and get us a letter saying the house is termite free.
We had a problem with our home owners insurance making it to the right people. The agent sent it to the new house and it is no where to be found. I finally got them to email it to me and it is now in the hands of the attorney and mortgage company.
It comes down to people not doing what they are supposed to. If the insurance agent had called the lawyer and faxed it to them 3 weeks ago, like he said he would, we wouldn't have this problem. If the mortgage broker had looked at the termite report before Friday, we wouldn't have had this last minute scramble either.
So, we will close either this Thursday or Monday. Either one is fine with me, as long as we close.

Homeownership is wonderful already, eh?
ReplyDeleteNot to worry, it is good to get the little buggers just in case and it is good to keep up the inspections as there will be a warrenty along with the certificate. You just never know with these things.
